Our First Family Campout

We just returned from our first tent camping experience as a family and Emory's first time camping at Cedar Hill State Park with our Family Nature Club.   We are so lucky to have had perfect weather, a beautiful campsite, our very own camp director (Toni aka "special T", who entertained us all with goodies, crafts, laughter and  fun) but most importantly, wonderful friends to share this amazing weekend with.
Our campsite:
Everett wasted no time getting down and dirty. Seen here Ev uses his new, scissor-type bug collecting globe (on ground) to scoop dirt. (Thanks Special T!) Oh and in case you're wondering...yes, contents of tank ended up on his head.  Plenty of times.

Awwww the life.  Tricia gets a little R & R kicking back on her new hammock.

Ori's dog, Wally enjoyed the R & R as well.
Special T brought lots of fun activities and crafts for the kids:
Leaf rubbing craft
 Hippie S'mores
Ev singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with Mommy. Look at that dirty face. :o) Adorable.

We discovered Everett LOVES to hike!!  After a few hikes, he finally, understood we were hiking on "trails" and not "tunnels".
"Come on Mommy, let's go see tunnels"

Getting the fire built  and started for hot dogs:
Emory & Tricia,"the Baby Whisperer". Look how relaxed and comfortable he is with Tricia.  Sweetness.
Gotta  have s'more when you're camping. YUM!!

There was plenty of time to get silly:

Sunday:

Sunday morning "Storytime with Special T".
Sunday Morning hike.
After breakfast on Sunday, Special T introduced and taught the kids how to make "Banana Boats" (filled with chocolate morsels, marshmallows, wrapped in foil and placed on hot coals).
Yummmmmmo!
After packing up camp, we made a quick stop at the lake before heading out of Cedar Hill.  It was really windy and the water was ice cold.
Here's Everett trying to convince Mama he needs to go swimming.
Wally, Ori, Emory and I (Monica) skipped wading and hiked along the lake.  We found a nice little spot to take a few bluebonnet pics.
Zoe and Wally ready to go.
Thanks to all of our friends for making this weekend the perfect first campout experience for our boys.   Looking forward to our next adventure and soon!

We're going to start planning a "To Do with the Hartlen's" list, for when you all DO come visit. We had a great time but know it would have been so much more fun with you four. Someday soon!! :)
