The only time Ethan asks for a hug is when he is upset and has been crying (usually because he's in trouble. Sometimes hurt) and as he is calming down he says between sobs "I need a duddle (cuddle)" - nice, except after all that crying he is so snotty and wet, and he buries his face in your shoulder..... A joy of motherhood! Lol
