A giggly boy and his dog.
Today, Prince was high spirited and ready to play; Ev had a super time watching.
In these video's you'll hear me snap my fingers to get Prince's attention, as this seems to be the only sound he hears anymore. I'm so glad Prince continutes to be so loving and gentle with Ev. I will cherish these video snippets of my aging dog, with our baby boy forever.
I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Why Oh Why.....
Late last night I noticed a dead fly on the carpet in the den. I thought to myself, "I need to pick that up, before Ev finds it". Well, i forgot. This morning, I noticed Ev playing quietly...as i approached, i noticed pieces of FLY broken up around him. ACK!!!
I stuck my fingers in his mouth and out comes the fly's carcass plus one wing! ICK, !ACK!! ACK!!!
All this coming from the child who hasnt quite grasped the "pincher" concept to eat his CHEERIOS!!!
Is it too early to make him gargle with Listerine?

No & Mama & Walking & Save the Date!
Everett has been a little "wild banshee" lately; climbing on things, ALMOST walking on his own and getting into everything he can. It seems like every time I turn around he's into something new.
His latest? A fascination with our antique chest that occupies framed, family photos on top. Deona and I made the decision to leave decoratives, etc. as they are, and teach Ev to respect each of their places. Of course that doesnt include items that can potentially cause injury to him (i.e. the burning candle that once sat on the chest had to be removed...thank heavens Ev wasnt burned); that said, he is now very familiar with the word "NO" and recognizes that "no" means stop and off limits. For some reason, our darling son thinks if he grins sweetly, he's pardoned from the request and will try again. How can our sweet, sweet baby boy possibly be so manipulative at this young age??? :) Oh! I forgot to add...lately, Ev has started saying "Mama", but only when he's in trouble or when he's upset with one of us. It's like he's saying, "Ma, leave me alone".
An update on walking...we think he could start any day now. Though he hasn't taken more than one step at a time, he's standing for longer and longer periods, without holding on. As you will see in a couple of these video clips, he's getting pretty good at balancing and seems to be quite comfortable; especially when standing next to something.
And finally.... I know this is early, but I'd like to get a "Save the Date" out for Ev's 1st birthday party. Please plan on joining us, Saturday, May 16th, 2009. Details forthcoming.
Unfortunately, these video clips do not capture his lengthier (is that a word?) attempts, but thought i needed to post something before he's actually walking. Hoping to capture better video, soon. Stay tuned!

Date Night and Co-Dependent moms
For those of you with child(ren), know life can be hectic and full, very full. And if you add an outside job to the mix, it gets fuller – at least the time planning and coordinating everything seems to become unmanageable. It’s no wonder we (parents) often feel exhausted, neglected, worn out and frayed around the edges. And our personal relationship can feel like, “What relationship?”
Well, it had been long enough...8 months later, Deona and I went on a date. Hooray! After dropping Everett off with aunt Jackie, Deona and I drove to our favorite restaurant. We were, however sad, as this was the first time we would be leaving our baby boy for a date. :( Well, we pressed on and drove to Joe T.Garcia's. We had a delicious dinner, however seeing two babies at two adjacent tables, made us sad (again). I know, i know, we're pathetic.
After dinner, we drove around our old neighborhood and happened upon our friend, Courtney's house. Courtney & her husband, Chris are due with baby #1, any day now. Their nursery is decorated so cute with safari animals. Courtney's mom and dad were there, hanging up window treatments and letters on the wall. With all the talk about pregnancy, delivering, and seeing all her baby stuff, made me miss Ev even more! UGH!!! Does it get any easier???!!!
Two hours later, we headed back to aunt Jackie's. When we walked in, Ev was fast asleep, snuggled in a comfortable comforter on the floor. He looked so sweet. Aunt Jackie said Ev did experience some separation anxiety, however he quickly forgot how upset he was, once they headed out for a walk.
Deona and I have decided we'll be having date nights once a month. We're both looking forward to the day that it become easier for us to leave our baby boy with a sitter, so we can truly enjoy ourselves.
I am first to admit...I've become a co-dependent mom. :(
sweet baby boy.
Another milestone
I started timing him, as i couldn't believe how long he was standing. I counted 12 whole seconds (real seconds...like, 1-one thousand, 2-one thousand...3-one thousand... you get the idea), before he finally sat down.
Also, I'm not sure whether to count today as taking his "first step" or not...
This afternoon, Ev took a step before reaching out to me. This evening, he did the same thing for Deona.
Oh goodness, our baby boy is growing up so fast and we can't slow him down.
Everett, we're not ready for you to walk!

Slides, sun & snacks for the quacks!
playing in the rocks.
Grampy burying Jordan's hands.
Ev thought it would be fun to climb on cousin, Jordan.
Then Ev decided it would be fun to eat a rock.
Jordan decided to brave the big slide.
Way to go, Jordan!!
Way to go, Grampy (even the rusty landing)! :)

A Brand New Day!
Ev & Grampy watching the inauguration.
Estimated two million spectators.
Aretha Franklin sings the US anthem, 'Let Freedom Ring'.
Obama's inauguration brings to an end eight years of Republican rule under George W. Bush. Hallelujia! It's so wonderful to feel hope for our country.
Our happy two-mom family says, "Hurray America! Let Freedom Ring!"
